Nitto Sweeps podium at 2023 Ultra4 Best Dam Race in Disney, Oklahoma
The 2023 Ultra4 Best Dam Race at Disney, Oklahoma and man, did the cars fall fast. This brutal race was taking out cars like the King of Hammers. And there was no shortage of rocks in the 5 mile rock course that would bash the big rigs however, the water claimed more cars than anything. With the cars now running more electronics than ever, water doesn't play nice. One of the biggest problems was with radios—with no communication to the pits a racer does not know how much fuel they have, or how far ahead they are of others cars. Which means pushing too hard could break the car even if they are a mile or a lap ahead of the rest of the pack. By the end of they day every single racer had engine or radio issues, or both. But the Campbell-built, Nitto Trail Grappler tire equipped cars were able to keep them going throughout the race to take all three of the top spots!
It was a Nitto Podium Sweep for the Campbell Crew at a 2023 Best Dam Race, they fought hard and took home hardware!
Bryan Crofts with his fresh 4400 car battled hard and took home a win for the day, where lots of other racers struggled at the waterfall— which had some make or break moments.
The cold and deep water was great equalizer of all the off-road rigs. The 4400 Unlimited Race Cars were all trying to overcome issues but the water took out the most vehicles.
Passing the waterfall was an option, and certainly added some action to the race- but it worked for some racers because of buggys jammed up several times and slowed times.
The crowd at the waterfall stayed till the last rig rolled though, and the cheers and growns made for an electric feeling as cars banged and blasted though.
It was clear why the big dogs are always at the top of pack, because they were literally racing side by side though several sections of the course. This is the second time the 4400 cars have ever raced at the Disney, OK off-road area.
Wayland Campbell was ripping around in his Campbell Chassis and overcame all kinds of mechanical issues— even getting out of the car to work on it and losing the lead— but still able to cross the finish line in third. Because of all the work, He had few panels, if any, still on his car by the end of the race, looking more like a exo car.
Levi Shirley broke early in the day, so as a true racer at heart, he hopped out to help winch buggies up the waterfall as fast as he could, which made a big difference for all the guys who were still trying to go home with a trophy.
The Campbell cars proved to be super tough throughout the day, with water leading to problems with electronics on all teams trying to just keep their buggies in the fight.
The Point 1 race team was out in their Porsche 911 bodied 4400 race car. The rocks claimed a ton of cars earlier on and it was war of attrition all day long.
The Rufus racing team was keeping up with the fight with Chip and Pip both pushing there cars against the steep obstacles and watching broken parts and flat tires led to many cars just pulling into the pits.
Watching car after car claimed by the rough rock as they were crashed and bashed until they were winched off by course workers. There were only a handful of cars left that took the last lap of the day at the 2 hour mark.
Bailey Campbell, and co driver Ryan Miller, came in second in her white Capbell Racing chassis and Nitto Trail Grappler tires that blasted though the rocks and woods. Her brother, Wayland, was trying to run her down to bump up a spot on the top box.
Watching the rigs at the 2023 Best Dam Race rip though was an amazing site to see and the fans loved it.
