Help, I'm Surrounded by Miatas!
What do you do when you find yourself surrounded by Miatas? It might seem a little weird if you're not used to it, but the KINOD meet is a fun place to be if you are. What's a KINOD? I'll get to the specifics later, but all you really need to know is that it stands for one of the largest Miata enthusiast communities out there. I've been to my fair share of late night car meets, but other than hanging out with that one friend who dragged you out in the first place, I've never found much interest in them otherwise. I really didn’t know what to expect attending my first all-Miata meet at the local Krispy Kreme in City of Industry, California but that's mostly because I tend to avoid meets that take place at a Krispy Kreme because of the bad press surrounding it lately. I took a chance and well…I was pretty amazed what I saw. At the KINOD 9th Anniversary Miata Meet, there weren't any revving idiots and the cops left us in peace - best of all, it was chill and friendly. I knew I was a stranger for the most part, but ended up staying longer than I originally anticipated because I was always meeting someone new, and they all had plenty to share when it came to their enthusiasm for the Miata. With that, here are:
5 standout attractions you can expect from any KINOD get together...
1. NAs and NBs
While it’s not impossible to spot the third generation NC, most Miata enthusiasts tend to gravitate to the NA and NB chassis. From the pop-up headlights to a bubblier figure, the first two generations of the Miata were one of the few roadsters you could find during the mid-'90s and early 2000s. Mazda crammed a lot of performance and value into a little package, so it's easy to see why they became popular to enthusiasts - gobs of potential. 
2. Krispy Kreme Donuts
No burnouts, no revving and no donuts…unless they are Krispy Kreme Donuts of course! You can’t attend the meet in the Krispy Kreme parking lot without being tempted to taste those perfectly glazed donuts. Have a dozen or two or four. Also, if you didn't know, KINOD is an acronym for "Kripsy Kreme In-N-Out and Drive." 
3. Track Roadster
The Miata has always been known for its nimble handling and affordability, to own and maintain, which is why it's a great track car, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned veteran. There will always be your fair share of stanced-out Miatas sporting aggressive wheel fitment, but more than likely you are going to find Miatas that are track-ready, riddled with battle scars and some meaty NITTO performance tires. 
4. Mazda North America
Over the years KINOD has been able to develop a great social network, enough so that Mazda North America took notice. Occasionally some of Mazda's R&D guys will pop in to see what’s going on. For the 9th anniversary, the infamous Dave Coleman and Kelvin Hiraishi came out with a pair of brand new 2016 Mazda Miata NDs. Everyone at the meet was welcome to pop the hood, sit in the driver's seat and take as many selfies as they wanted. 
5. Community
"I don't have friends, I have family" is the cliché line of 2015, but it holds very true at any KINOD Miata Meet. I witnessed first hand how these little roadsters brought together a tight niche of people. It was my first time attending, but everyone was very welcoming and even more eager to share their personal experiences and love of the Miata. It’s the roadster lifestyle.
