Garage Built: A Shop That’s Become Just Like Home

For Driving Line’s Managing Editor Kristin Cline, and her husband Ethan, cars are more than just a way to make a living; they’re a way of life. Meeting and bonding over their love of classic cars, when it came time to move in together, a garage was the first option considered. With sufficient room for their ever-revolving car projects below, the loft above gives all the living space they need. Sure, having a front door in an alley may be a little unconventional, but it’s the perfect fit for them.

Exiting the garage most recently, after a lengthy engine rebuild, is Kristin’s ’55 Studebaker Champion. Her long-time daily driver and a love that pre-dates Ethan, she had little-to-no automotive knowledge prior to purchasing the Stude nearly 10 years ago. Ever her learning tool, she tackles each new job that comes up—whether that’s replacing a radiator, sewing a new interior or swapping the engine. Ethan on the other hand is a trained mechanic who whittles away on his own and customer projects, all the while offering Kristin helpful advice. This shop-made-home sees plenty of work, lots of laughter and tons of love.
