10 of the Most Unbelievable Chase Scenes From 'Fast & Furious'

The "Fast & Furious" franchise has always tip-toed between the lines of amazing and downright unbelievable, so we felt it was only fitting to compile a list of the most memorable scenes of the movies — the chase scenes, obviously.

10.  'It's a Scramble Baby!'

Opening the list is the scramble scene from "2 Fast 2 Furious." Making a mockery of the police is something Dom Toretto would have loved in the only movie of the franchise he has missed. In an elaborate escape plan, Brian O'Conner and his new running mate Roman Pierce enlist the help of the entire car scene in a giant game of misdirection to get away from the police while they take care of the real bad guys.

9.  The Chase and The Race: Brian vs. Dom

The first movie of the franchise focused more on wild cars than wild chases, but the end of the movie served as one of the most iconic chase scenes of them all. Right after Race Wars and another attempted semi-truck hijacking, Dom and Brian are on a chase after Johnny Tran and his cousin Lance who just killed their good friend, Jesse.

After the chase, the two face off in one final head-to-head race that narrowly escapes a train crossing only for Dom to be blindsided by — get this — a semi-truck. As the police near, Brian decides to let Dom get away, solidifying their relationship and setting the stage for all "Fast & Furious" movies to come.

8.  Tunnel Chase

We've seen our fair share of tunnel chases in movies — so how does a franchise about cars put their twist on it and stand out from the rest? By chasing a custom-built "ramp car" through the Mersey Tunnel in the U.K. On top of that, a high-flying aerial assault by Agent Hobbs before Owen Shaw ultimately escapes will keep you on the edge wanting more.

7.  Death of Han

They say drifting is all about style points. Well, this chase scene from Tokyo Drift is one of the most stylish of the franchise. How unbelievable would it be to witness a 350Z, a Lancer and a Veliside RX-7 drifting through the traffic-filled streets of Tokyo — including a "Parting of the Red Sea" moment with a drift through the busy Shibuya crossing?!? Throw in the tie-in to the franchise with Deckard Shaw being the real culprit to to Han Lue's death, and your mind will officially be blown.

6.  Tanker Rescue

Upping the stakes, Dom and his crew have found themselves in a new continent, hijacking trucks, but this time for valuable gas. In a chase down a mountainside, Dom does the unthinkable by saving Letty who has found herself stuck on the back of the runaway truck before facing off in the ultimate game of chicken against a tumbling gas tanker caught on fire. Oh, and did I mention Dom was driving in reverse for most of the chase?

5.  The Vault Heist

"Fast Five" (2011)

What would you do for a $100 Million? How about break into a corrupt Police precinct, chain a vault to two super-powered Dodge Chargers, and ruin the streets of Rio. Demolish a bank with the vault for irony, sneak in an elaborate switch-a-roo in the process for good measures, and that will land this scene in the top five of most unbelievable "Fast & Furious" chase scenes.

4.  Train Heist and Canyon Jump

Steal rare cars from a moving train. Double-cross some bad guys. Ram the heist truck into the moving train. Drive out of the train in a vintage Stingray, only to drive back to save your partner before inevitably running out of ground and doing a canyon jump into the water hundreds of feet below. Of course, they all swam away to safety. Right...

3.  'They Got A Tank!'

"Fast and Furious 6" (2013)

"I'm sorry, did somebody just say a tank?" Yes, a tank! The most unbelievable part of the chase isn't just a bridge-to-bridge jump, or a car-to-car jump, but a car-to-over-a-bridge-to-save-a-life jump.

2.  The Plane Scene

"Fast & Furious 6" (2013)

Another "Fast & Furious 6" chase scene? As one of the most controversial of all chase scenes, "The Plane Scene" has it all — cars, a plane, fighting, guns, explosions, last minute escapes, even death. They pack in so many elements that viewers questioned the length of the plane's runway, but you can see in this video how those scenes all happened simultaneously. Still looks cool.

1.  The Hijackers

And here we are: the most unbelievable and perhaps the most iconic chase of the franchise... the scene that started it all. Three all-black Honda Civics with neon green underglow and Motec System Exhaust, hijacking a moving semi-truck. I'm not sure what's more unbelievable — harpooning the semi from a Civic's sunroof, driving underneath the trailer or the fact they were stealing Panasonic DVD players.
